  Music Biography
  Recordings

In his original material as well as when mining rare gems and standards, Brook interprets uniquely. His Earth Rhythms will connect you to the planet’s pulse, while his version of Rollin’ & Tumblin’ will have you movin’ to the swamp tinged groove.

Brook’s material springs from his wonder at the beauty and sacredness of life, from our need for connection with each other and with spirit, and from the challenges of trying to live a life based in vulnerability and emotional honesty. His material ranges from sweet to ironic, from the poetic to strong calls to action.

As a solo, or accompanied by some of the finest blues and jazz musicians in the Bay Area, Brook can fit any venue. Brook is comfortable in a duo, or with a trio (bass & drums or bass & horn). His Blue Stream band can add a second guitar, a horn, or a keyboard as needed.

Brook is committed to community. He will gladly donate performances for causes that he considers worthy.

Brook has worked with Bo Diddley and his BoKay Production Company, Chuck Berry, “The Reverend” Steve Weist, and Bruce Langhorn, among others. He has also accompanied jazz performers Bill Watrous, Bobbie Shew, and Al Shachman. He co-led the African Jazz Ensemble with Motown percussionist Renaldo Jackson. He took Mimi Fox’s vacated seat in the Joyce Baker Group, accompanying Opie Bellas for 3 years.

In addition, he has worked and recorded with many local groups, including blues, folk, American roots, fusion, big band, and progressive jazz, making appearances at the Berkeley Jazz Festival, in clubs, on radio and on television.

Brook began his career at age 19 in the Mark Levy Quartet. Soon after, he toured with the Bull Frog Blues Band. At the Wisconsin College Conservatory in Milwaukee, Brook studied jazz composition with Tony King and jazz guitar with Manty Ellis.
