Teaching Biography
"Helping people seek their empowerment through nature based spirituality,
through taking political action, and through group and inter-personal
process makes my heart sing. I find deep magic in the unfolding miracle
of daily life. I consider myself a kitchen witch or, the older term, "cunning
man", a village healer and magic worker. I love the transformational
magic inherent in cooking, gardening, and in the other mundane tasks of
living. I prefer working with simple, practical magic. I also weave my
moment to moment practice of mindfulness into my work. For me, practicing
the Craft of the Wise in the Reclaiming tradition is a great gift that
we, the participants in any class, give to each other.
I first worked with the Reclaiming community in 1982, and moved to San
Francisco to join the community a year later. I weave material gleaned
from years of work, both as a student and as a teacher. In my workshops
you may find material from my primary Craft teachers, Starhawk and Rose
May Dance, along with the work of Stephen Levine, Robert Moss, Encompass
(Natural Learning Rhythms), Cybele, Peter Walker, and from the writings
of Wendy Palmer, Harville Hendrix, Connie Zweig, Anodea Judith, Shakti
Gawain, along with many others. I have also learned a great deal from
the co-teachers with which I've worked and have added material as I've
developed it in my workshops for more than 20 years." --Brook
The focus of Brook's teaching is direct experience and reflection, empowerment
of the participants, co-teaching, emotional safety, and decision making
through consensus. Through his drumming and chanting, Brook brings a high
level of energy to his experiential workshops. Brook teaches classes on
magic and mythology that not only present the magic and myth, but bring
them into our daily lives. He presents workshops on singing and drumming
for healing, for ritual and as an act of devotion, on personal shadow
stalking, on consensus process and facilitation, the core classes of the
Reclaiming tradition, classes on non-violence and magical activism, on
developing psychic skills, and on working with the tarot. He is continuously
teaching at Reclaiming witchcamps and workshops in the U.S. and internationally.
As a blues and jazz musician, his music reflects a wonder at the beauty
and sacredness of life. His work evokes our need for connection with each
other and with spirit, and speaks to the challenges of trying to live
a life based in vulnerability and emotional honesty. His material ranges
from sweet to ironic, from the poetic to strong calls to action. He has
worked and recorded with many groups, including blues, folk, American
roots, fusion, big band, and progressive jazz, making appearances at the
festivals, in clubs, on radio and on television.

"I've worked with Brook for over twenty years,
in all kinds of situations from nonviolence trainings in the mud to
Witch camps and ritual trainings--he's very skilled, knowledgeable,
compassionate, caring, conscientious, and fun to work with--especially
good at empowering his students."
